August 25, 2001: LIMA TO CHICLAYO
HOME
Today´s a travel day.  We have the morning to explore Lima and then off to the airport for an afternoon flight to Chiclayo.
The trip to the airport takes us through some of the better LIma neighborhoods and then some of the ¨not so good¨neighborhoods

Along the road to the Airport we passed compounds that were the orphaniage and the insane asylum.  Fine old buildings right on the water that are now being restored.
Time for last minute purchases before our departure to the Lima Airport.  Today we fly from Lima to Chiclayo up the coast to start the exploration of the Moche and Chimu cultures in Northern Coastal Peru. We will be joined this evening by Carol MacKay who will be our archeologist for the next week.  We start in Chiclayo then proceed down the coast to Trujillo.
WAITING AT THE AIRPORT FOR THE REPLACEMENT PLANE

We get to the airport in time for hamburgers at the airport restaurant.  The plane is full of the Lima soccor team that has a very important match with Chiclayo tomorrow (Lima lost) so we know that we will get to Chiclayo safely.  After boarding the plane and waiting fifteen minutes, we all got off the plane and waited for another plane with fewer mechanical problems.
Well, not all the problems were fixed.  But we did arrive safely.
Boarding the Bus in Chiclayo for the hotel.
